A Research Associate position in structural molecular biology of protein translocation and quality control is available immediately in the Schaffitzel lab, University of Bristol UK, funded by the BBSRC.

As part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team, the Research Associate will perform international leading basic research with the objective of unlocking the structure, function and cellular interaction of key membrane protein complexes in protein translocation and quality control, applying and integrating recombinant multiprotein expression tools, structural biology (Cryo-EM, X-ray), biophysics, proteomics, cell biology and biochemistry techniques. Experience with recombinant expression of membrane protein complexes, structural biology methods (Cryo-EM, X-ray) and, membrane protein biochemistry techniques, are highly desirable. Experience with protein translocation and quality control is a plus. Applicants should hold a PhD in membrane protein biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology (EM, X-ray) or a related subject.

The Research Associate will benefit from the cutting-edge Bristol Biosuite for structural biology and the Synthetic Biology centre (BrisSynbio, www.bristol.ac.uk/brissynbio/), our new state-of-the-art single particle Cryo-EM facility (Talos Arctica, DED), access to the national Cryo-EM facility at Diamond.Harwell (4 Titan Krios) and BAG access to Diamond’s high brilliance X-ray beamlines. The successful candidate and synergize with our internationally leading academic collaborators (Ian Collinson, Imre Berger, Bristol; Shou Shan, CalTech; Carol Robinson, Oxford; and Juri Rappsilber, Berlin).  We are seeking to fill the post asap.
