Senior Research Engineer

Department review:
The Software Networks area is dedicated to the research, development and innovation on Software Defined Networks (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and Cloud technologies, in order to add value and to offer new tools and technologies to promote the adoption of new business models and the development of ICT sector. The group holds expertise in development of network service orchestrators for enabling dynamic and rapid service provisioning (including complete network service lifecycle) over cross-domain SDN/NFV based environments.
Our team is a relevant player in the European research ecosystem and participates as partners or subcontractors in other R&D projects. Our department also offers professional services to relevant industry. Recently, the department has been granted with 3 new European projects funded under H2020 program. With this new development, the Software Networks department plans to incorporate a Senior Research Engineer.

Job Description:
The Software Network area of Fundacio i2CAT offers a SENIOR RESEARCH ENGINEER position for R&D projects in the ICT sector to work on the design, planning and execution of R + I + D activities. The candidate will report directly to the area director and will have the capabilities to manage and lead particular technical aspects within European projects to ensure their successful fulfilment.

Minimum requirements:

• Master Degree on Telecommunications Engineering or Computer Science.
• Solid understanding of network architectures, including DC, Enterprise and Access Networks.
• Sound knowledge of networking technologies (ie., TCP/IP, G/MPLS, switching, routing, SDN, etc.)
• Knowledge and understanding of Software Defined Networks (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and Cloud Computing
• Analytical mind-set able to propose solutions to new and known problems and carry on research proactively
• Good written, communication and presentation skills
• Fluency in spoken and written English is a must
• Availability to travel (+/- 10 times per year in short trips of 2-3 days)
• Spanish work permission

 

Desired requirements:

• Ph.D on a related field will be valued
• Experience in a team leadership role in R&D projects.
• Previous development experience is a plus (e.g., Python, C++, Java, scripting)
• Past experience with SDN platforms and network virtualization technologies is a plus (e.g., OpenDayLight, Floodlight, VMware NSX, Nicira NVP, Nuage VSP).
• Experience with Cloud computing technologies.
