Job Purpose

The University of Birmingham is continuing to make strategic investments into the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR) and commenced operations of a world-leading Free Air CO2 Enrichment experiment (BIFoR-FACE) in a mature temperate forest ecosystem. We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Plant Pathology to advance understanding of Tree Diseases and Forest Pathology to the School of Biosciences, strengthening the core science team of BIFoR. Applications are invited from candidates whose research interests align with and will use the opportunities offered by BIFoR and BIFoR-FACE. The appointee who may not yet have experience in trees will have a vision of how to use cutting edge methods in plant pathology and make them applicable to real world forest ecosystems.

Person Specification

Evidence of a strong track record in publishing work of the highest academic quality and impact is essential, and (for a senior appointment) obtaining external research funding is important. In addition to demonstrating (or showing potential for) internationally excellent research, applicants must have a commitment to delivering excellent teaching and learning in plant pathology at all levels (i.e. undergraduate, postgraduate, and higher research degrees) and communicating the relevance and impact of their research to stakeholders. The successful candidates will be involved in administrative tasks (appropriate to their appointment grade) to support delivery of research and teaching within the School of Biosciences and the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research.
