Job Details

The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute is a public institution with the mandate to contribute to the improvement of the health of populations internationally and nationally through excellence in research, services, and teaching and training. The Swiss Centre for International Health (SCIH) of the Swiss TPH conducts consultancy, project management, training and applied research work in international and global health.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing the following tasks:

  • Technical, managerial and financial project planning and implementation of Swiss TPH lead projects in the Great Lakes region (Rwanda and East DRC): the Project Leader will be responsible for the achievement of project objectives;
  • Technical support in the area of:
  • district health care
  • community driven implementation research
  • capacity building and peer processes
  • adolescent sexual and reproductive health
  • health service management
  • community participation including the organization and planning of expert missions and inputs;
  • Day to day management and coordination of project activities and project finances;
  • Managerial backstopping of remote project teams;
  • Liaison with donor agency, other multi- and bilateral agencies as well as NGOs, at national and regional level;
  • Support and contribute to Swiss TPH project and grant acquisition.

 

This position reports to the project director based at the Swiss TPH headquarters in Basel.

The successful candidate has:

  • A degree in health, health service management, sociology, epidemiology or another health related field (Master degree level). A postgraduate training in public health or a MBA is an asset;
  • Minimum of 10 years of working experience in the field of health systems support, Sexual and reproductive health, child health and nutrition in countries of sub-Saharan Africa;
  • Significant working experience in at least one of the following fields: implementation research, community action research, community services including CHW, health system monitoring and evaluation;
  • Confirmed experience in programme/project management and ability to work in a team;
  • Ability to communicate with high level policy makers and international partners;
  • Excellent command of English and French.

 

 

This position will be opened starting from September 1, 2017. Position opening is conditional on funding agreements with the donor.
