    The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide.     The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine is embedded in the Faculty of Sciences. The school is located at the University's Waite campus, the pre-eminent agricultural and wine science research site in the Southern Hemisphere. The School offers academic programs in food and nutrition science, applied biology, agricultural science, viticulture and oenology and plant biotechnology. The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine has world-class expertise and facilities in human nutrition, agricultural and plant sciences, plant breeding, viticulture and oenology and biochemistry. The School is home to a range of research centres and works closely with a number of co-located partners including CSIRO (Agriculture, Land & Food), South Australian Research & Development Institute and Australian Wine Research Institute, as well as the South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute.

    The Research Assistant will work closely with AWRI staff on a Wine Australia funded project as part of a research team investigating the effects of glutathione addition during winemaking on subsequent wine composition and quality. The successful applicant will be expected to work with precision to undertake a range of laboratory and winery experiments, prepare and analyse samples, operate analytical instruments and conduct method development, purify and characterise compounds, analyse data and report on outcomes.

    Salary: (HEO4) $59,735 - $65,704 per annum.

    Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% may apply

    Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available immediately for 3 years

     

    Position requirements

    To be successful you should have:

    • Demonstrated skills in chemical experimentation, including relevant knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques and instruments.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct laboratory and/or winery experiments.
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyse data to inform decision making processes.
    • Excellent communication skills, as evidenced through report writing and delivery of oral presentations.
    • Bachelor of Science majoring in chemistry (or related discipline), or an equivalent combination of education/training/experience.
