The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences

The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences teaches and researches in the disciplines of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology and Parasitology. The common thread in the School’s discipline mix is the capacity of molecular-based approaches to create understanding and to lead to discovery.

Situated in the Faculty of Science, the School is one of the largest and most-complex in the University with nearly 200 full-time equivalent staff, an annual budget of $37M, a full-time equivalent student load of more than 1,570 (~26% international), and extensive laboratory facilities, scientific equipment holdings and a workshop. It spans two buildings on the St Lucia campus has links to a number of the University’s research institutes. It administers several majors in the BSc and BAdvSc, along with the BBiotech(Hons) and three postgraduate coursework programs.

 

The role

This position is responsible for administrative coordination of the School’s First Year Chemistry Laboratory programs. Approximately 2,000 students enrol each semester in programs with a First Year Chemistry Laboratory component.

The position requires liaison with academic, technical and administrative staff regarding all aspects of the administration of the First Year Chemistry Laboratory programs, including laboratory timetables, assessment administration, student correspondence; and coordination and payment of all chemistry tutors. The position also provides secretarial support to the Coursework Student Advisory Group (CSAG) and facilitates other student experience projects.

The position is to be job-shared by two persons each working 50% and the successful candidate will work approximately six hours per day (18.125 hours per week), Wednesday to Friday, overlapping on Wednesdays with the other Officer.

 

The person

Applicants should possess a Bachelor degree (preferably a Science (Honours) degree), or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. The applicant must have the ability to work with minimal supervision, meet deadlines under pressure, have a strong customer service focus, analytical and problem-solving skills and intermediate to advanced desktop computing skills.

 

Remuneration

This is a part-time 0.5FTE fixed term appointment at HEW Level 6 until 31 March 2018, with the possibility of an extension.
The remuneration package will be in the range $74,207- $79,964 p.a. pro-rata, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $86,822 - $93,557 p.a.).
