About BSC
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is a hosting member of the PRACE European distributed supercomputing infrastructure. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has almost 500 staff from 44 countries.
About BSC Life Sciences Department
The Life Sciences Department is composed of 4 research groups and 5 technical units covering the main areas of Computational Biology and bioinformatics, including genome analysis and annotation structural bioinformatics, network biology and text mining. The Department hosts the coordination and technical nodes of the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute (INB-ISCIIi) node of ELIXIR. Overall, the department has as common goal the technical, computational and scientific challenges in the field of Personalized Medicine.
Context and Mission of the role
The Life Sciences department is looking for a candidate to coordinate the new Bioinformatics coordination unit to be developed in the context of the collaborative agreement for the coordination of the Bioinformatics activities in clinical genomics in main Catalan Research Centers and Hospitals.
Responsibilities
Lead the Bioinformatics coordination unit
Coordinate the activities of Bioinformatics core units and research groups in Research Centers and Research Institutes in Hospitals
Coordinate the work with the BSC technical services
Conditions
The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department
We offer a full-time contract, a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible hours, extensive training plan, tickets restaurant and a private health insurance
Some traveling must be expected.
Duration of the contract: 3 years (extendable)
