The Division of Information Technology Services (ITS) at The University of Queensland provides an information environment that supports the teaching, learning, research and engagement objectives of the University and contributes positively to the student experience and the University reputation, in line with our values of Service, Team, Accountability and Results. It delivers network, systems and IT infrastructure support to the University, and application development. Also located within ITS is the internationally recognised network security group, AusCERT, which provides Internet security services throughout Australia and New Zealand. ITS manages core networks not only for the whole of The University of Queensland but also works with other Queensland universities to manage access to the national university network (AARNet). ITS also operates research computing infrastructure and hosts many of the University largest servers.

 

The role

We are seeking an experience Automation Test Engineer to undertake software testing activities for various initiatives at the University of Queensland. The position will frequently be a major link between ITS and the client, good communication is essential in order to ensure customer satisfaction and provide suitable explanations of technical matters.

The successful candidate is expected to make a substantial contribution to the success of our growing range of projects.

Using your skills you will:

  • Review requirements, specifications, user documentation, and other project documentation to assure quality of the products and tests to be developed.

  • Develop and execute automated test suites across a range of applications including COTS applications.

  • Integrate test suites into the test management system and custom test harnesses.

  • Use risk-driven techniques to develop, maintain, and execute automated test suites for various Software products; i.e., perform automated dynamic testing.

  • Work with the Development team to capture and reuse automated Unit Test Cases, Test Stubs and Drivers, and other Development test objects.

  • Participate in project planning activities to identify the quality implications of known bugs and the impact of proposed changes to product definition and impact on the testing process.

  • Undertake / contribute towards test planning activities including developing test plans

 

The person

The successful candidate will possess qualifications and training equivalent to an undergraduate degree in IT or related field and subsequent relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and training. You will be experienced in implementing and maintaining test automation frameworks for web-based applications such as Data-driven and Keyword-driven or Hybrid frameworks. Experience using automated test tools such as Selenium/webdriver IO, JMeter, PHPUnit, Jasmine, Silk Test Workbench / HP UFT or equivlents is required. You will also need to be competent in Java, Perl, Ruby or Python scripting.  Strong exposure to tools including Jira, Confluence, Test Management tools and knowledge of Agile software development methodologies is desirable.

 

Remuneration

This is a full-time, 12-month fixed term appointment at HEW Level 7. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,883.65 - $89,559.15 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of 9.5% (total package will be in the range $89,662.60 -  $98,067.27 p.a.).
