Faculty of Medicine (UQ) and Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service (Queensland Health)

The Faculty of Medicine and Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service seek vibrant and exceptional clinical academics looking for a leadership opportunity to become the Head of Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health.

The School of Clinical Medicine has a strong focus on the delivery of both phases of the Medicine program across a number of sites within the Brisbane metropolitan area, including but not limited to, the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Herston; the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba; the Prince Charles Hospital, Chermside, and the St Lucia Campus. Leadership at each site is provided by an experienced academic with responsibility for budget and financial matters, human resource matters and facility management. The School consists of academic staff members across all clinical disciplines and more than 2500 academic title holders.

The CHQ Clinical Unit is a small teaching unit based at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital consisting of approx. 10 paid staff members and linkages with over 150 unpaid title holders who contribute to the teaching efforts. The Unit is responsible for the delivery of the medicine program at that Hospital site and ensures the effective engagement with the Hospital and Health Service executive.

Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CHQ HHS) is a recognised leader in paediatric healthcare, teaching and research. With a dedicated team of more than 3,700 people, our point of difference is in the way we provide care to children, young people and their families every day.  This is through our steadfast commitment to providing patient and family-centred care at every level of our service and our continuous drive for service and operational excellence. A recognised leader in paediatric healthcare, education and research, we deliver a full range of clinical services, tertiary level care and health promotion programs for children across Queensland, northern New South Wales and overseas.

The Head is responsible for all academics involved in the delivery of the medicine program at the CHQ Clinical Unit, and also ensures effective engagement with the Executive of relevant hospitals and Health Services. The purpose of the role is to champion, manage and review the delivery of teaching and learning experiences within the Clinical Unit and to maximise the quality of the medical student outcomes, and to drive staff engagement and satisfaction.

The appointee will also provide tertiary general paediatric services for children and adolescents in both an inpatient and outpatient setting and ensure the provision of high quality, safe and family-centred care. The appointee is expected to move seamlessly between the clinical and academic environments.

This exciting post provides a unique opportunity to further develop clinical teaching in a highly supportive and committed organisation with the ultimate aim of creating a world-class clinical teaching program at the Children’s Hospital Queensland.
