UQ Biological Resources

The University of Queensland Biological Resources Unit (UQBR) manages the laboratory animal production and research facilities for the University of Queensland.

The role of UQBR is to provide UQ with world class Animal Research services to UQ researchers involved in research using laboratory animals.

We are currently advertising for 2 x Trainee Animal Technical Officer (HEW 2)/ Animal Technical Officer (HEW 3) broad-banded positions within UQBR animal facilities based at either St Lucia, Herston and Woollongabba campuses, in Brisbane.

 

The role

The primary role is to provide care and husbandry to all animal breeding and stock holding colonies, carrying out research associated procedures and ensuring their welfare needs are met at all times for UQ Biological Resources.

Medical Clearance: Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position. Your appointment is therefore subject to, and conditional upon, satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety.  In addition, the Employee is required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.

 

The person

The applicant applying for the Trainee animal Technical Officer (HEW 2) position must have an interest with working in an animal research facility or have at least 6 months’ work experience in an animal facility. The applicant must also be willing to undergo a formal qualification in the Laboratory animal technology industry

The applicant applying for Animal Technical Officer (HEW 3) position must possess qualifications in relevant disciplines or equivalent combination of relevant experience. You should also have expertise in rodent colonies and a sound knowledge and experience in all aspects animal house operation and animal handling techniques.

 

 

Remuneration

These full-time positions will be remunerated at HEW level 2 or 3, depending on skills and experience. These positions are fixed-term for 2 years.

The remuneration package at HEW Level 2 will be in the range $49,973.06 - $51,258.52 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $58,468.48 - $59,972.47 p.a.). The remuneration package at HEW Level 3 will be in the range $52,291.58 - $58,050.18 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $61,181.15 - $67,918.71 p.a.).
