    The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. As the first university in Australia to grant degrees in science (1882), science has long been at the cornerstone of the institution and this continues today. As a research and education leader in fields such as agriculture, food & wine, animal & veterinary sciences, biological sciences, and physical sciences, the Faculty offers an exciting and innovative work environment.

    The School of Physical Sciences is one of four Schools in the Faculty of Sciences.  Located at the University's North Terrace campus, the School brings together the internationally recognised contemporary disciplines of chemistry; earth science; and physics, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research with both national relevance and global outreach and networks in the public and private sectors.

    The Department of Chemistry has experienced significant growth in its undergraduate and postgraduate student numbers in recent years and consistent grant success has significantly enhanced our research equipment and infrastructure. The latter includes enhanced NMR and mass spectrometry capabilities (Adelaide Molecular Analysis and Characterisation, AMAC), world-class facilities for small and large molecule X‑ray crystallography and access to major on-campus facilities such as Adelaide Proteomics and Adelaide Microscopy. 

    Applications are sought from dynamic and energetic candidates with a research focus in the field of Organic Chemistry for a 4-year fixed-term academic position within the School of Physical Sciences that enhances or complements the existing research strengths of the Department of Chemistry; Energy & Environment, Functional Materials, Medicinal & Biological Chemistry, and Molecular Photoscience & Ion Chemistry.

    The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in research, teaching and student learning.  In addition, you will have an outstanding research track record and will be expected to develop and/or maintain an active research program.  You will also contribute to undergraduate teaching, the supervision of students, and assist with the administrative responsibilities of the School. 

    Salary: (Level B) $94,135 to $111,788 per annum

    Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% may apply

    Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available from 1 January 2018 for a period of four years

     

    Position requirements

    To be successful you should have:

    1. A PhD, or equivalent, in Chemistry

    2. A commitment to research excellence, as demonstrated by an outstanding publication track record in leading scientific journals and conferences

    3. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in Chemistry in addition to working effectively as a member of a research team

    4. Ability to maintain an active and innovative research program

    5. Enthusiasm and commitment to teaching and student learning

    6. Ability to co-supervise, motivate, and mentor research students

    7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
