SmartApp Financial Risk Management with Advanced Robust Risk Optimization Methods
A fully funded studentship awarded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership (SCDTP).

This project aims to develop combined Big Data analytics and optimisation models to enhance the accuracy of uncertainty quantification and reduce the risks (e.g. default) associated with smartphone-based finance. The project will work closely with industry-leading big data and smartphone partners and have real-world case studies. The proposed robust risk management approaches will adopt state-of-the-art robust optimisation models and will provide industry partners with an innovative risk management tool specifically for smartphone-based finance products. The project aims to make tools and methodologies validated in operational environments and enhance industry’s ability to assess, manage, reduce and mitigate their financial risks.
Skills required of the PhD Student:

Funding
South Coast DTP Funding provides an annual maintenance grant (tax free) of £14553, plus payment of all programme fees. Other funding available for SCDTP funded students can be found on the SCDTP website (southcoastdtp.ac.uk).
Funding is provided for 3 years full-time PhD study (pro-rata for part-time students). Applications for 1+3 funding for students completing a Master's year prior to the commencement of PhD study are also welcome (details available at southcoastdtp.ac.uk).
