Job Purpose

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work within the School of Psychology, University of Birmingham. The successful candidate will develop signal processing and statistical tools for advanced cognitive neuroscience investigations applied to human electrophysiological data. These advances will be integrated in analysis pipelines to be used primarily for MEG research. This includes developing documentation and teaching material. The pipeline will be made openly available and new methodology published. These efforts will serve to initiate collaborations with other cognitive and clinical researchers at the university conducting MEG experiments.

The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to partake in collaboration resulting in high quality academic publications, to present at national and international academic conferences, and to engage in public activities. Furthermore that Research Fellow will take part in supervision students and contribute to the School of Psychology through leadership.

 

Person Specification

• A PhD in psychology or cognitive neuroscience
• High level analytical capability
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly
• Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
• Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
• Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
• High level of computational skills
• Expertise in data acquisition of human electrophysiological data
• High degree of Matlab expertise
• Excellent skills on applied statistics
• Expertise in analysing human electrophysiological data (ideally FieldTrip or EEGLab experience)
• Expertise on state-of-the source modelling techniques
• Expertise on brain stimulation techniques including TMS and tDCS.
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly (including proficiency in English language).
• Extensive experience with experimental design
• Strong academic writing and presentation skills.
• Supervision experience (BSc and MSc students)
• Ability to write scientific manuscripts for high quality publications; strong academic publication record.
• High ability to integrate into a multidisciplinary team and to give guidance to junior lab members.
