Job Purpose

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position in Development of Advanced Device Technology for Point of Care Sensing at the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham.
The successful candidate will join the Advanced Nano-Materials, Structures and Applications (ANMSA) Group, one of the leading academic groups in the field of development of novel micro and nano-structures, miniaturised diagnostic technologies and complementary optical processes. Further information can be found on the group's website: www.anmsa.com. This is a multi-disciplinary project, requiring a strong background in one or more of the following disciplines: biochemical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, nonlinear optics, computer science, ophthalmology and neuroscience. The position offers an exciting opportunity to apply novel optical processes with translational applications in medicine, with support from medical researchers and clinicians.
We are looking for a highly motivated, bright and enthusiastic candidate with a strong background and hands-on experience in Raman Spectroscopy, designing and building optical systems and tissue optics, familiarity with MATLAB, chemometric deconvolution and/or principal component analysis methods. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in CAD/CAM and 3D printing and particularly, expertise in advanced Raman spectroscopy techniques (e.g. CARS). The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science or a related area, and an excellent publication record. These aspects require a high level of literacy and numeracy, coupled with an ability to develop new techniques and use of unfamiliar equipment.
