Job Details

Are you an early career researcher looking for a challenge? Do you have a background in C. elegans biology? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work in collaboration with an interactive research team in the van Oosten-Hawle lab. The van Oosten-Hawle lab uses the nematode C. elegans as a model system to investigate how proteostasis is maintained at the level of an entire organism throughout aging and neurodegenerative protein misfolding diseases.

You will be involved in a NC3Rs (National Centre for the Replacement Refinement and Reduction of Animals) funded research project that aims to uncover how conserved cellular stress response mechanisms are communicated between tissues in an organism and how interventions in this process can be utilised to treat protein misfolding disease, including neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.

You will have experience in C. elegans maintenance, genetic crosses and microinjection for the generation of transgenic C. elegans strains. Previous experience in standard molecular biology techniques, including PCR, molecular cloning, quantitative real time PCR and Western blotting are essential.
