The Advanced Water Management Centre (AWMC) is an international centre of excellence in innovative water technology, treatment and management. With over 100 research staff and students based at The University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus, the AWMC has established a substantial niche in the interdisciplinary fields of biological science and chemical process engineering. The AWMC has an international reputation for expertise in education, research and training, with >100 international journal publications per year and excellent funding successes from industry and the Australian Research Council (>$8M in the last 3 years). 

The role

The successful applicant will undertake ground-breaking research leading to the discovery and understandings of the microbial processes responsible for the bioconversions of methane, along with other associated reactions. The position will also play an important role in the development of novel technologies based on the fundamental discoveries. The successful applicant will become part of an outstanding research environment that aims to develop a suite of leading-edge biotechnology solutions to enable the cost-effective production of liquid chemicals from biogas.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in environmental biotechnology, environmental engineering, chemical engineering or a closely-related field. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career in environmental microbiology, good general research skills, strong experience in bioprocess engineering, excellent writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 3 years at Academic Research level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,545 - $87,535 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95,408 - $102,416 p.a.)
