Job Details

The University of Strasbourg Institute for Advanced Study (USIAS) was created in 2012 to fund excellent, original research in all scientific domains and to serve as a place of intellectual innovation. USIAS offers 10-20 Fellowships each year to excellent researchers from all countries and disciplinary backgrounds.
Fellowships are available to high quality researchers from outside of Strasbourg, wishing to carry out research in collaboration with researchers at the University of Strasbourg and/or to use a specific Strasbourg research facility. In addition, excellent researchers already based at the University of Strasbourg wishing to work on particularly original research ideas, seeking to apply their knowledge and skills to new domains outside of their current field of work, are welcome to apply, especially when jointly with an external collaborator. Eligible candidates should be at least at the level of assistant professor (or equivalent), or beyond.
The University of Strasbourg, tracing its history to 1538, has been home to historic figures such as Johan Wolfgang von Goethe, Louis Pasteur, Georg Simmel, Albert Schweitzer, and Marc Bloch. Currently it is the largest university in France, with about 46,000 students and over 4,000 researchers, and it is among Europe's best, being part of the League of European Research Universities (LERU). The University has been home to 18 Nobel laureates, of which 3 awarded in the past 7 years. The University offers academic programs in all major scientific disciplines, with a particular focus on multidisciplinary approaches.

Eligible candidates should be at least at the level of assistant professor (or equivalent) or beyond.

Fellowships are available to:
researchers from outside of Strasbourg, wishing to carry out research in collaboration with researchers at the University of Strasbourg and/or to use a specific Strasbourg research facility;
researchers already based at the University of Strasbourg who have the want to make a change of direction in their research (new topic, new method, new domain) involving above average effort and risk.

Proposals should be written in English to enable international peer review, following the guidelines available online on the USIAS website. Deadline for submission: 2 October 2017 (13:00 CET). Publication of final results: February 2018
