The Clinical Bioinformatics Area of the Fundación Progreso y Salud, headed by Dr. Joaquín Dopazo, located at the Hospital Virgen del Rocío Campus in Sevilla (Spain), is interested in hosting a Marie Curie Fellowship. One Marie Skłodowska-Curie project is offered to be supervised by Dr. Joaquín Dopazo:

 

Project Objective

The development of increasingly accurate quantitative models of cell processes with a real translational application. To achieve so, this project aims to exploit the enormous amounts of genomic cancer data of different nature available in combination with the currently existing knowledge on complex cell pathways (signaling, metabolic, regulatory, etc.) and the recent advancements in mathematical, machine learning and computational methodologies.

Dr. Joaquín Dopazo has been working first in the university of Valencia where he got a PhD in Biologival Sciences and, since then he has been working in different private (Glaxo Wellcome) and public (Centro Nacional de Biotecnología –CNB-, Centro Nacional de Imvestigaciones Oncológicas –CNIO-, Centro de Investigacion Príncipe Felipe –CIPF-) and recently moved to the Clinical Bioinformatic Area of the Fundación Progreso y Salud. Dr. Dopazo has more than 270 publications in peer reviewed international journals, which obtained more than 13,000 citations. He has promoted several projects of personalized medicine (Medical Genome Project, FutureClinic) and participated in numerous international consortia.

Description of the center

The Clinical Bioinformatics Area of the Fundación Progreso y Salud in Seville, Spain, unit is part of the recently created Clinical Bioinformatics and Research Area (CBRA) from the Fundación Progreso y Salud (FPS). The CBRA has been conceived as a fundamental piece of the Personalized Medicine plan from the Andalusian community, with the mission of facilitating and providing the tools for the inclusion of the genomic data of the patient in the electronical health record. The CBRA depends from the FPS for administrative matters and from the Research Secretary of the Local Ministry of Health for strategical and scientific matters.
 

Description of the group

The group has the dual aim of developing innovative algorithms and methods for genomic data analysis combined with the production of high quality software specifically designed to be used by inexperienced end users, all this with a strong translational orientation. The ultimate objective of the group is bringing to the clinician complex algorithms for the management of complex genomics data in a transparent way for them that foster the adoption of innovative technologies in the current clinical practice. As a result of this effort, a number of tools, described below, have been developed and maintained for the biomedical community. These tools can be considered the services portfolio of the Area.
