Job Purpose

The role-holder is responsible for operational administration and housekeeping pertaining to the UG Teaching Laboratories in the School of Chemistry. This primarily relates to term-time functions to support the UG practical teaching programmes of the School and is both part time and temporary, to help cover maternity leave. A significant proportion of time is assigned to administrative tasks based in the laboratory environment and health and safety awareness/good practice is extremely important.

 

Person Specification

  • The role-holder must have very good organisational and time management skills, and be able to work in a flexible manner responding to the needs of the School. The ability to follow procedures and multi-task is essential.
  • Previous administrative experience is essential, as is experience of working in a chemical or biological laboratory environment.
  • The role holder must be adept at using standard computing software packages including Word, Excel, email; and have the skills and capability to quickly learn to use other software including WebCT and proactis.
  • The role-holder must possess good communication skills (verbal and written), and possess good interpersonal skills; the ability to use electronic means of communication is essential.
  • The role-holder is expected to possess a minimum of GCSE grades A*-C in English, maths and science. A higher Chemistry qualification is highly desirable.
  • The role-holder will need to be familiar with health and safety good practice and chemical safety legislation in particular, although training will be provided.
