Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer

 

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has an academic vacancy in the Geotechnics Section and is looking for highly able, enthusiastic and well-motivated applicants wishing to develop a career in one of Europe’s leading teaching and research institutions. The appointment is at Lecturer / Senior Lecturer level, depending on experience and track record.

The Department has an outstanding international reputation, consistently achieving the highest rating from all previous UK research assessment exercises. The successful candidate will join a vibrant team of specialists in the Geotechnics Section, working in experimental, field and theoretical Soil Mechanics, Engineering Seismology and Engineering Geology.

Applications are invited from individuals with expertise in laboratory–based experimental Soil Mechanics. Applicants are expected to utilise and extend the state of the art capabilities of the Geotechnics Section’s soil element testing laboratory, have experience in advanced laboratory testing techniques and equipment development and be able to foster challenging research ideas fundable by Research Councils and/or Industry. Applicants should have a relevant PhD and a track record of high quality research, demonstrated by recent publications in internationally leading journals.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and to play a leading role in developing the Section’s research in relevant areas, building on and extending the Section’s current activities which range from particulate micromechanics up to full-scale soil-structure interaction.
