Job Purpose

Creative Media operate as a University business with an annual turnover in excess of £2M and operates to three key core strategic business objectives:

  • Delivering professional quality visual communications
  • Providing first-class customer service
  • Developing a business for growth and profitability


The Creative Media mission is ‘To provide innovative solutions with practical application to help make important things happen’.

The Design team deliver in excess of 1300 University based design for print and digital projects, with multiple project elements, and a smaller number of external projects.

This post will take a lead role in coordinating and monitoring the day-to-day workflow and output of the Design team in Creative Media (CM), ensuring that both deadlines and project budgets are monitored and delivered successfully then passed on to the finance and administration team for charging ensuring all information is accurate and correct.

 

Person Specification

Level of knowledge and/or educational qualifications required:

  • Educated to at least degree level in Graphic Design, Advertising, or similar relevant qualification
  • Proven Studio Management experience, and/or extensive experience as a Senior Designer in agency or similar environment
  • Proven experience of managing people
  • Computer-literate: articulate, confident and competent in the use of database/MIS systems, electronic communications, spreadsheets


Skills/Attributes required:

  • Substantial knowledge of design and print production process
  • Excellent organisation skills, including good time management and the ability to think methodically and on own initiative
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including third party suppliers
  • A determination to deliver a customer focused service
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time effectively, planning, scheduling and prioritising multiple projects to meet deadlines
  • Ability to monitor budgets and resource against projects
  • Confidentiality and discretion
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, to be able to deal confidently, professionally and efficiently with contacts at all levels


Level of previous experience required:

  • Proven studio manager and/or extensive senior designer experience in a similar studio environment is essential
  • Experience of financial and MIS computer systems monitoring and reporting
  • Budget management experience
  • Demonstrable experience of implementing procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Sound negotiating skills
  • Ability to work well to strict deadlines and under pressure
  • Evdence of strong numeracy and problem solving skills
  • Experience of managing and motivating a team
