Job Purpose

The laboratory of Dr Sovan Sarkar at the University of Birmingham is seeking a post-doctoral candidate for 9 months. Broad research themes in the lab encompass studying the role of autophagy in human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) and hESC-derived cell types, investigating the mechanisms of cell death in human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-based disease models, and associated drug discovery. The research project involves investigating the crosstalk between autophagy and cell death, and requires human stem cell culture, differentiation of hESCs/hiPSCs into various cell types, autophagy and cell death assays, and proteomics. Candidates with a PhD degree and with experience in stem cells/cancer stem cells, autophagy, cell death mechanisms and in the areas of cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology can apply. Research accomplishments of Dr Sovan Sarkar can be found at www.birmingham.ac.uk/sovan-sarkar and further informal inquiries can be made to him by e-mail at s.sarkar@bham.ac.uk.
