Lincoln University invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Food Engineering.  

This represents an exciting opportunity to combine teaching and research in this area and contribute to a dynamic export-led industry.

Lincoln University is New Zealand’s specialist, land-based University with a proud tradition as New Zealand’s third oldest tertiary institution, founded in 1878 as a School of Agriculture. Today it is a research-led institution with an emphasis on land-based disciplines and their associated industries - agriculture, horticulture, viticulture, bio-technology, environmental science, environmental management, tourism, landscape architecture, sport & recreation and commerce.

 

Department
The appointee will be a member of the Department of Wine, Food and Molecular Biosciences. The Department is responsible for delivering both the Bachelor Degree in Food Science and MSc in Food Innovation and has an active postgraduate (PhD) programme in these fields.  Food is a key strategic focus for the University and the BSc (Food science) and Masters of Food Innovation. There is an active and growing research culture based around the Centre for Food Research and Innovation. The Department has also established close links with industry through embedding the ANZCo food innovation centre and Food Innovation (South island). 

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • a PhD in an appropriate discipline (Food Engineering, Dairy Science and Technology, Food Processing)
  • an excellent knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of Food Engineering and an understanding of dairy science
  • an enthusiasm for teaching
  • an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research
  • a successful track record of teaching and research, including working with industry partners
  • a clear understanding of the current and likely future challenges facing the food engineering at local, national and international levels.

 

We expect suitable candidates to show a passion for research combining cutting-edge science and practical outcomes, and demonstrate a commitment to publication in both academic and industry spheres. This individual should be able to enthuse students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels about to enter the industry on relevance of the science that underpins current practice and future innovation. The individual will be expected to embrace a dynamic research culture working collegially with other academics in food science and technology, and wine science disciplines.
