Cardiac Electrophysiologist
Position # 23956
MSAS# 2235

The Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Cardiology, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Cardiac Sciences Program invite applications for an adult cardiologist with advanced training in cardiac electrophysiology.

This is an academic position with substantial cardiac resources within the region, primarily at two academic health centres (St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre), serving the needs of 1.2 million people in Manitoba, Nunavut, and Northwestern Ontario.

The Arrhythmia Service provides comprehensive consultative, procedural and outpatient follow-up care to the catchment area. There are two dedicated labs located at St. Boniface Hospital for EP procedures and cardiac device implantation with 400 ablations and 1,000 device procedures per year. The Pacemaker and Defibrillator Clinic follows 6,000 device patients with 13,000 patient visits per year.

There are presently 29 full-time academic cardiologists within the Section of Cardiology with major clinical and investigative responsibilities in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance, nuclear cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, and heart failure and cardiac transplantation.

The successful applicant will have academic potential, including demonstration of effective interdisciplinary communication, a record of prior training in electrophysiology and complex device implantation as well as competency in general cardiology. They must also have clinical and teaching skills to further the aims of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Cardiology. This is a geographical, full-time, contingent position commencing January 1, 2018, or as soon thereafter as possible, for a term of two years, renewable upon favourable review.  Salary and rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Candidates must have senior specialty qualifications in Cardiology in the country of current practice and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Certification in Adult Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred.

The University of Manitoba is a major research university located in the city of Winnipeg. The city has a rich cultural environment with symphony, opera, dance, theatre and ethnic festivals. The region also provides ample opportunities for outdoor recreation in all seasons.

The University of Manitoba and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority are strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from women, members of racialized communities, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, persons of all sexual orientations and genders, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.

Confidential applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae including a list of publications, and the names of three references and should be received no later than noon on September 30, 2017. All materials should be sent to:
