Primary role in the development, optimization and validation of multiplexed immunogenicity assays to support regulated vaccine and/or bioanalytical work. Provides guidance in the design of experiments to optimize existing techniques, to evaluate new techniques, and to validate and troubleshoot clinical assays. Provides scientific direction to support the goals of Merck. Maintains familiarity with current scientific/technical literature as it applies to one’s current job responsibilities.

Provides expert technical representation on multidisciplinary teams. May lead and supervise scientists. Acts as technical expert within own group/project team. Promotes technical and/or cross functional solutions such as: Applies advanced scientific concepts to complex problems.

Consultant to management throughout the organization on specific area of expertise.

Accountable for technical and expert knowledge contribution to team. Collaborates, communicates, and explain difficult issues within and across the work group. Works in a structured environment under minimal supervision. Maintains accurate records of ongoing projects in adherence with documentation standards.

Leads/manages project teams. Designs, conducts, analyzes and reports the results of laboratory experiments. Monitors ongoing experiments for any unusual occurrences. Maintains familiarity with relevant literature to apply scientific best practices to internal processes and identify opportunities to improve quality of work.

Generates, reviews, and approves reports. May interface with external agencies and customers within Merck to report findings and status of projects. Oversees sample testing under GLP guidelines for in vivo and human studies (including review and approval of data and report preparation, and troubleshooting assays).

Qualifications

Education:

- BA/BS Degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Biology, Biochemistry or a related Biological Sciences discipline. with at least 7 years of related experience, OR MS Degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Biology, Biochemistry or a related Biological Sciences discipline with a minimum of 4 years of related experience, OR Ph.D. Degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Biology, Biochemistry or a related Biological Sciences discipline.

Required:

- Must have in-depth knowledge of the principles and concepts of vaccine and/or bioanalytical assay development, optimization, and validation.

- Candidate must be trained in GLP requirements and must have experience working in a regulated laboratory environment.

- Candidate must have extensive experience with Immunology assays including multiplexed Luminex and/or multiplexed immunoassay platforms. Candidate must also have experience executing on formal reagent qualifications, QC trending activities, and troubleshooting for immunological and molecular assay methods.

Preferred:

- Computer skills including use of data fitting software, electronic laboratory notebooks, LIMS programs and Microsoft Office.
