Duties and responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in basic Plant Physiology and Metabolism.
  • Provide study guidance to postgraduate students.
  • Expand the current research niche area in Plant Metabolism within the department.
  • Initiate and conduct externally funded high-level research in abovementioned field.
  • Publish research outputs in accredited national and international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Perform general administrative duties.
  • Contribute to curriculum development within the faculty.
  •  

    Inherent requirements:

    Junior Lecturer:

  • An honours degree in Plant Physiology
  • A good academic record.
  •  

    Lecturer:

  • Master’s degreein Plant Physiology.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.
  • A good academic record.
  •  

    Senior Lecturer:

  • PhD in Plant Physiology.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
  • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
  • An NRF rating or demonstrable potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
  • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s degree students.
  • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
  • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.
  •  

    Required Competencies

    • Sound knowledge of Plant Physiology and Metabolism.
    • Lecturing abilities and post-graduate student supervision.
    • Skills for management of research laboratory.
    • Ability to do independent research.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University’s parallel-medium and richly diverse working environment.

     

    Recommendations:

    Junior Lecturer:

  • Willingness to enroll for a master’s degree at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of appointment.
  •  

    Lecturer:

    • Willingness to enroll for a doctoral degree at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of appointment.
    • Proven research record or relevant publication in accredited national journals.
    • Experience in the field of Plant Physiology.
    • Active involvement in research combining Plant Physiology and Metabolism.
    • Two (2) to three (3) years’s experiencein teaching in Plant Physiology at tertiary level.

     

    Senior Lecturer:

  • Experience in the field of Plant Physiology.
  • Active involvement in research combining Plant Physiology and Metabolism.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experiencein teaching in Plant Physiology at tertiary level.
