Duties and responsibilities:

Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in basic Plant Physiology and Metabolism.

Provide study guidance to postgraduate students.

Expand the current research niche area in Plant Metabolism within the department.

Initiate and conduct externally funded high-level research in abovementioned field.

Publish research outputs in accredited national and international peer-reviewed journals.

Perform general administrative duties.

Contribute to curriculum development within the faculty.

 

Inherent requirements:

Junior Lecturer:

An honours degree in Plant Physiology

A good academic record.

 

Lecturer:

Master’s degreein Plant Physiology.

Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.

Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.

A good academic record.

 

Senior Lecturer:

PhD in Plant Physiology.

Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.

Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.

An NRF rating or demonstrable potential for obtaining an NRF rating.

Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s degree students.

A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.

Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

 

Required Competencies

• Sound knowledge of Plant Physiology and Metabolism.
• Lecturing abilities and post-graduate student supervision.
• Skills for management of research laboratory.
• Ability to do independent research.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University’s parallel-medium and richly diverse working environment.

 

Recommendations:

Junior Lecturer:

Willingness to enroll for a master’s degree at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of appointment.

 

Lecturer:

• Willingness to enroll for a doctoral degree at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of appointment.
• Proven research record or relevant publication in accredited national journals.
• Experience in the field of Plant Physiology.
• Active involvement in research combining Plant Physiology and Metabolism.
• Two (2) to three (3) years’s experiencein teaching in Plant Physiology at tertiary level.

 

Senior Lecturer:

Experience in the field of Plant Physiology.

Active involvement in research combining Plant Physiology and Metabolism.

Three (3) to five (5) years’ experiencein teaching in Plant Physiology at tertiary level.
