Job Details
Job Purpose
The post holder will be responsible for the management and administration of strategic block grants received from major research funders (such as EPSRC and Wellcome Trust) and of University allocated funds such as the University of Birmingham-University of Nottingham Strategic Collaboration Fund. The role will include financial monitoring, management and full reporting of the utilisation and outcomes of the projects supported through these funds as well as evaluation of the funds. The post holder will also work with academic and other research support colleagues in the development of principally knowledge exchange projects some of which may relate to the funds that the post is responsible for.
The post holder will be expected to be a self-starter, able to display strong proposal development/bid writing and project management skills and be an exemplary communicator.
Person Specification
- Graduate with good honours degree
- Significant knowledge of the UK research funding environment, key funders and their processes.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of research grant management and the management of budgets. Appreciation of post-award issues associated with e.g. contract issues, intellectual property, capturing of impact, reporting etc.
- Proven track record on providing significant support to successful funding applications
- Experienced in the facilitation and formulation of knowledge exchange proposals or equivalent with the ability to provide detailed direction on scoping and developing bids/final grant applications drawing together complementary inputs and data to enhance the quality of the final applications.
- Proven ability to enhance the quality of applications through critical review
- Strong networking and relationship building skills
- Excellent report writing ability and a strong communicator
- Experience of effective financial and/or project management
- Excellent analytical skills (financial, situational and organisational)
- Confident and capable user of IT inclusive of all main Office products (e.g. Access, Excel, Powerpoint and Word)
- Proven commitment to the delivery of exceptional customer service
- Ability to apply a significant amount of professional and independent judgement
- A strong understanding of the research impact agenda
