Job Details

Based in the world leading Water and Environmental Engineering Research Group (www.bristol.ac.uk/engineering/research/water/) within the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol this is an exciting opportunity to join a strong team developing state-of-the-art systems approaches for water resources management.

You will develop new modelling and optimization tools to support the sustainable planning and management of water resources, working in close collaboration with other researchers in the team as well as non-academic partners such as water companies, consultancy companies and governmental organizations. You will develop new methods and tools to assist water resource managers in long-term planning and daily operation of water infrastructures, finding novel solutions to fully exploit predictions from monitoring and modeling systems while dealing with their associated uncertainties in a coherent and structured way. You will demonstrate the new methods by application to pilot case studies selected in collaboration with industry partners, and you will contribute to implementing them into open-source software packages to be shared across the community.

You have a PhD in Environmental Engineering/Science with a strong mathematical background and established programming skills; or a PhD in system & control engineering/math or related areas with an interest in water and the environment. Previous experience in modeling and optimization of water resource systems is beneficial.

This post is offered on a full time, open ended contract with funding for up to 2 years.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place in mid October 2017.

Informal enquiries can be made to: Dr Francesca Pianosi (francesca.pianosi@bristol.ac.uk)
