Job Details
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a challenging Synthetic Biology project joining a highly interdisciplinary team of control engineers, applied mathematicians, biologists and biochemists.
The work-plan requires a high level of integration between in-silico and wet-lab experiments, under the overall supervision of Prof. Mario di Bernardo (Engineering Maths) together with Prof. Nigel Savery (Biochemistry), Prof. Claire Grierson (Biological Sciences) and Dr. Lucia Marucci (Engineering Maths).
You will work on developing and validating feedback strategies to control cell populations via feedback modulation of an external stimulus; contributing to design of chips for microfluidics platform; assisting with the tailoring and designing of the microfluidics platform for control; investigating strategies for feedback control of multicellular bacterial consortia.
The successful applicant should have an excellent background in control engineering and its applications to synthetic biology, and should be committed to applying their research to design control strategies for synthetically engineered cell populations. Applicants will possess a relevant PhD and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in feedback control design, convergence and stability analysis, mathematical modelling, dynamical systems and synthetic biology in order to work within the project. Previous experience with microfluidics based control experiments is highly desirable.
This post is offered on a full time, open ended contract with funding up to June 2019.
