Job Details

A new role has been created within the Student Health Emotion Regulation Pathway (SHERPA) at the University of Bristol Students’ Health Service. The pathway is an innovative project to provide specialist psychological input for students with ongoing risk issues and difficulties with emotional regulation in a primary care setting.

The post holder will work closely alongside the lead clinical psychologist to deliver psychological assessment, formulations and evidence based treatment to students with complex mental health issues in a primary care setting. It is likely that the majority of the referred students will have issues such as self-harm, suicide risk, diagnoses of personality disorder or similar levels of complexity. The post holder will also have a role in routine clinical data collection, analysis and the ongoing evaluation of the service to ensure its effectiveness. SHERPA personnel are also involved in providing psychologically informed consultation, support and training to various members of the Students’ Health service staff group.

The role will involve being part of a close and friendly primary care practice clinical team of GPs, prescribing nurses, pharmacist and practice nurses at an award winning University health service. The role is comparable to a Band 7 Clinical Psychology post within the NHS. Supervision will be provided by a clinical psychologist, with weekly time allocated for non-clinical aspects of the role. The post holder will be expected to work autonomously in their individual clinical duties, but will work closely with the lead clinical psychologist in delivering therapeutic groups, contributing to meetings and engaging in liaison work. The role is comparable to a Band 7 Clinical Psychology post within the NHS.

Applicants should be enthusiastic about working with young people, work well in a multidisciplinary environment and be confident to work with risk issues. They should be able to demonstrate skill with formulation and have proficiency using relevant therapeutic approaches (e.g. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Focussed Therapy, Dialectic Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy). They should also have experience of conducting audits, service evaluations. Prior NHS experience in secondary care/specialist services and experience working with challenging and complex mental health presentations is desirable. They will hold HCPC registration and/or equivalent registration with their professional body.

Interviews anticipated : Friday September 15 2017
