Lecturer in Lifestyle Behaviour Change

Job Details

Job Purpose

SportexR is a world-leader in lifestyle behaviour change research (particularly exercise/physical activity/sedentary behaviours). Our research portfolio includes implementing theory-grounded, community-based lifestyle interventions to increase physical activity and/or reduce sedentary time within various populations across the lifespan (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, type 2 diabetes, older adults, children and young people), and novel approaches for creating more empowering climates to promote engagement in physical activity and sport, and the associated health and wellbeing benefits that are derived from this engagement. To compliment and continue our success in this area, we need to strategically recruit an individual with a strong academic background in Lifestyle Behaviour Change, with an interest in applying their expertise to physical activity/exercise/sedentary contexts. In particular, we are interested in appointing an individual with expertise in objective assessment of physical activity and sedentary time, advanced quantitative skills, an appreciation of and experience with applying mixed-methods approaches, and/or with experience in engaging in multi-disciplinary RCTs. This post will contribute research and teaching excellence across our three themes of Exercise and Health, Motor Control and Rehabilitation, and Sport Participation to Performance, enhance our ability to foster new interdisciplinary collaborations across the College and University (e.g., Psychology, Medicine and Dentistry), and build a critical mass of staff that can successfully win large (>£1M) grants. It will also enable us to support our already strong undergraduate and postgraduate teaching offering (which will continue to be a high priority as we move from BSc to MSci programmes).
