The Virtual Desktop Architect will be responsible for providing deep VMware Horizon product and solution expertise to Merck and enabling strategic design wins and positive outcomes. The individual will work with relevant engineering teams and architects in designing and validating virtual desktop solutions and architectures.
The ideal candidate will have a good mix of Technical / Architectural Skills and a strong desire to support Merck business. The ideal candidate will need to understand the detail behind the solutions and also be able to communicate the high-level vision. You will be acting as a lead technologist and should have a broad understanding of technology. Architec will leverage industry leading tools and processes to provide high quality, reliable, and cost effective virtual desktop services to the global Merck customers.

Primary job responsibilities include:
•Work as a lead architect to design the company global Virtual Desktop environment across all datacenters around the world.
•Be accountable and responsible for infrastructure lifecycle management as well as planning, design and architecture phases within VDI area.
•Oversee all processes and GxP practices are followed during the service planning and design.
•Assist in the development of the Merck engineering teams by providing subject area training (knowledge transfer) to fellow systems engineers; create the necessary training materials when appropriate.
•Present virtual desktop’s technical & business value proposition
•Drive the adoption of the new technologies and capabilities to enable best in class user experience.
•Draft the technology strategy and timelines for the VMware Horizon infrastructure.
oDefine the lifecycle model.
oArchitect the blue prints for the VDI deployments.
oCooperate closely with the other Global IT teams to achieve synergy and maintain the holistic approach across all involved technologies.
oDefine and design the new VDI standards according to the capacity, availability, security and financial needs and constraints.
•Manage relationships with both internal and external product and service providers including the management of service delivery and support.
•Ensure adherence to global standards, policies and Service Level Agreements (SLA).

Qualifications

We are seeking professionals with the following qualifications, skills and Experience:

Education Minimum Requirement:
•MSc Degree or BSc Degree or equivalent with relevant experience in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, Math, or equivalent experience.

Required Experience and Skills:
•Minimum of 7 years of experience in support virtual desktops using VMware technology.
•Demonstrated 5+ years of design and architecture of the highly automated VMware Virtual Desktop deployments utilizing VMware vRealize Orchestrator and in large scale global enterprise.
•Expert level knowledge in following areas:
oVMware vSphere
oVMware Horizon
oThin/Zero clients
oTerminal services
ovRealize Automation / vRealize Orchestrator
oMicrosoft Windows 7 / 10
oNutanix
•Experience working with a global team.
•Strong Technical and Analytical skills and ability to adapt and rapidly learn new technologies.
•Ability to take initiative and work with minimum direction in a highly demanding environment.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desired Experience and Skills:
•Scripting and programming experience is desirable (PowerShell, JavaScript, C#, PHP)
•Software development skills are a plus
•Proven design and delivery of large-scale/complex deployments of multi-VMware & 3rd-party product architectures
•Demonstrated experience in evangelizing new product / solution technologies
