Lecturer in Visual Art and Design (Jewellery and Metal Art and Design)

The Department of Visual Arts focuses on the training and development of visual artists and designers. Maintaining a broad and critical approach, emphasis rests on visual arts practices as research. The development of new media formats and practices, creative thinking processes and the practice of visual arts within cultural, economic, and socio-political contexts receive further emphasis.
Role
- Teaching and providing supervision in Jewellery and Metal Art and Design across all years of study in a Visual Arts environment that promotes and facilitates intersections between Art and Design;
- Conducting research and creative production in the Visual Arts;
- Developing and maintaining competitive standards in Jewellery and Metal Art and Design;
- Participating in the administration of the Visual Arts programme;
- Coordinating and participating in projects aimed at social impact.
Requirements
- Preferably a Master of Arts degree in Visual Arts with Jewellery and Metal Art and Design, or an applicable equivalent qualification;
- A thorough understanding of Jewellery and Metal Art and Design as integral to Visual Art and Design;
- Skill and experience in training and teaching in this field on Higher Educational level;
- Delivering research and creative work with the intersects between Art and Design as points of departure;
- Promoting innovation, creative and critical thinking and practices in the above-mentioned fields among undergraduate and postgraduate students;
- The ability to function in a multilingual environment;
- Work independently, as well as collaboratively, in developing, facilitating, and coordinating academic, creative, research-based, and socially relevant courses in Visual Arts.
Desired
- Expertise and facilitation skills in digital production programmes such as CAD and Rhino, in addition to Jewellery and Metal Art and Design;
- Continuous research development in understanding these fields and their relevant technologies as integral to Visual Art and Design;
- Sound administrative and communication skills.
