Business Information Systems (BIS) is one of seven areas of excellence at UQ Business School. The BIS cluster is renowned internationally for its research and is classed as “well above world standard” in all areas in the Australian government’s ERA assessment. The cluster encompasses multiple AIS Fellows and faculty members with experience across all major editorial boards (MISQ, ISR, & JAIS), including a former Editor-in-Chief of MISQ. Research by the members of BIS cluster appears in top-tier journals, including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and Management Science.

The role

The successful appointee (Postdoctoral Fellow) will participate in the on-going and forthcoming research undertaken within the Business Information Systems Cluster under the direction of Professor Andrew Burton Jones and Dr Saeed Akhlaghpour in the area of Effective Use of Health Information Systems and Electronic Medical Records. Professor Burton-Jones and Dr. Akhlaghpour are involved in an intensive longitudinal field study of the effective use of electronic medical records across multiple sites and are looking for a postdoctoral fellow who can assist with and lead parts of this work. The role offers exceptional opportunities to contribute to cutting edge, fundamental research with important real-world implications.

The main duties include:

  • Assist in delivering research projects in the field of Business Information Systems and especially Effective Use of Health Information Systems.
  • Coding and analysing qualitative data using appropriate methods and software tools (e.g., NVivo).
  • Performing reviews and syntheses of relevant literature
  • Management and undertaking of data collection through interviews, and surveys.
  • Producing reports based on results.
  • Draft and support applications for external and internal grant funding.
  • Assist in publishing research in high-quality refereed journal publications.
  • Collaborate closely with academic staff and industry partners producing research in accordance with timelines and objectives, as agreed by the research team.
  • Supervision of research assistants as required.
  • Perform a range of administrative functions around management of scope and budget for research projects.
  • Engage with members of the vibrant Business Information Cluster to foster relationships and share ideas (e.g. through participating in seminars), and engage with external stakeholders, as appropriate.

 

The person

Applicants should possess the following qualifications and expertise:

 

Essential

  • PhD (or ABD status) in Information Systems or a related discipline. If ABD at the time of application, the PhD must be completed prior to starting the appointment.
  • Relevant expertise in Information Systems field, evidenced by successful peer reviewed publications and, potentially, grant applications in this field.
  • Prior experience conducting qualitative research, e.g., using NVivo.
  • Strong English language, writing, and presentation skills, as evidenced by refereed papers and conference participation.
  • Evidence of an ability to analyse and report on both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage and demonstrate self-direction in relation to both the research work and leadership components of this position.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Good communication and time management skills and the ability to meet objectives within set deadlines.

 

Desirable

  • Evidence of experience in healthcare settings
  • Prior experience with managing research projects.
  • Prior experience of working with industry partners in the conduct of research

Remuneration

This is a full-time, two year fixed term appointment at Academic level B. The remuneration package will be in the range $92,142.74 - $109,419 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $107,807.01 - $128,020.46 p.a.).
The University will contribute to relocation assistance if required.
