ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR IN ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT - TENURE TRACK


The Natural Resources Management and Environmental Sciences (NRES) Department in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, invites applications for a tenure‐track, academic year position. Starting date is negotiable, but on or before September 13, 2018, is preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses, and graduate level courses that prepare students for a broad range of careers in environmental planning and management. Based on the successful candidate's areas of expertise, there is opportunity to develop new courses associated with this position. Research interests should include contemporary issues in the diverse field of environmental planning and management. Some potential areas of scholarship may include:


● Coastal resource planning and management
● Human and social dimensions of environmental systems
● Sustainable energy policy
● Environmental governance, law, and regulatory systems
● Environmental leadership

Duties may also include, but are not limited to, supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student research, student advising, and teaching graduate level courses and/or in a Master of Professional Studies or certificate program. The successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarly activities (i.e., research, grant writing, publications, and presentations) as part of his/her professional development. Service activities will include participation on department, college, and university committees and instructionally related activities.

Required Qualifications/Specialized Skills:
Doctorate degree in environmental planning and management or related discipline. The candidate should also have knowledge and experience across multiple environmental planning and management specializations including environmental law and regulation (e.g., CEQA, NEPA), environmental policy (e.g., energy, agriculture), land use planning, and geographic information systems (GIS).

Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the public is essential. Must demonstrate commitment to diversity.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to initiate, complete, secure external funding, and publish research.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Industry experience is preferred. Candidates with experience working for and/or with environmental consulting firms and NGOs would be considered desirable. The ability to collaborate on research with faculty across the College, University, and industry is desirable. Candidates, who have international experience or the desire to cultivate international links, are preferred.
