Assistant Professor / Senior Instructor - Renal Transplantation Program

Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan's first private international university, is committed to the provision of education, research and health care of international standard relevant to Pakistan and the region. The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has well-equipped investigative services and provides state-of-the-art clinical facilities. The Nephrology and Urology services are established as independent sections within the Departments of Medicine and Surgery. The Nephrology section provides independent as well as consultative services to patients in ICU, wards and ambulatory setting with measurable excellence in outcomes-focused patient care. Its 4-bedded hemodialysis unit performs over 4,000 sessions annually for elective and emergency cases. 

The Urology section, on the other hand, provides surgical management for a range of urinary and reproductive system disorders through open surgical, endourological, laparoscopic and laser techniques besides the non-invasive Lithotripsy service for urinary stone management. 

The multidisciplinary approach serves to enhance excellence in patient care and distinguishes the service for quality outcomes best suited to a tertiary referral centre at national level.

As part of its mission to provide comprehensive quality care to patients with end stage renal disease, the Hospital is establishing renal transplantation program through collaboration with a center of excellence. The phase-wise commencement of renal transplantation program at AKUH will provide an opportunity to develop services and enhance infrastructure to expand it to a multi organ transplant program in the future.

 

Responsibilities

This is a clinical academic position and the selected candidate will be expected to contribute to the departmental mission via active participation in research and teaching programs, training and mentoring of residents and participation in continuing medical education programs. 

 

Requirements

 

Ideal candidate will have multi organ transplant training with particular interest in kidney transplantation. He/ She should have association as consultant transplant surgeon at a high volume renal transplant center in a university based teaching set-up. Candidates must have completed a structured post-graduate training programme from a reputable institution and possess FCPS, Intercollegiate FRCS (UK), American Board or equivalent. 

 

Applicants for Assistant Professor should have at least three years of experience, while those for Senior Instructor require at least two years’ experience  in HEC recognized University. The applicant should also have teaching /research experience in an HEC recognized University or a postgraduate institution along with research publications in journals recognized jointly by HEC and PMDC with at least 2 of these publications in the last five years.
