The Position

The DRI is responsible for delivering high quality activities within the four strategic areas of research programs, research human capital, engagement with the scientific community and long term strategic initiatives, to ultimately achieve excellence in research. The successful candidate also responsible for providing high levels of leadership to the research team, ensuring that rigorous processes are in place to support the execution of core business activities. The DRI’s role is also heavily integrated with all core aspects of the wider organisation, to which it provides strong support in order to achieve success and growth.

Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the senior leadership team, the DRI is responsible for providing strategic direction to the research portfolio, while elevating the reputation of NBCF as an Innovative, visionary funder of research. This outward facing role is responsible for representing NBCF in the media alongside the research community

Presenting with gravitas and the ability to use and understand clinical language, coupled with an understanding or willingness to learn the commercial setting of a not for profit organisation, the ideal candidate will have a PhD and/or equivalent post-graduate education in biological/medical sciences.  MBBS or international equivalent or Higher Specialist Training would be well regarded.

 

The Organisation

The National Breast Cancer Foundation is the leading community-funded national organisation in Australia, supporting and promoting research for the prevention and cure of breast cancer.

In 2017 NBCF has committed over $12 million to fund more than 30 breast cancer research projects that will contribute towards their goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.

In total, since 1994, NBCF has awarded more than $140 million to around 479 Australian-based research projects to improve the health and well-being of those affected by breast cancer. During that time the 5-year survival for breast cancer has improved from 76% to 90%.
