Research Fellow in Data Analytics and Health

We are seeking a computer scientist who can support a range of exciting research projects in the UK NHS and internationally which will help improve the care pathways of patients with a range of complex conditions. The role will combine data analytics and data management skills with emerging process mining tools and practical work with large scale, complex electronic health records datasets. You will join a growing team of researchers working with state of the art facilities at one of the largest centres for health analytics in the UK. Our team work very closely with clinicians, managers and researchers in the local NHS and your drive and enthusiasm will make an important contribution to better healthcare, in our region and nationally. You will provide technical data management and analytical support to help our e-health records research group deliver high impact international research outputs. We are looking for candidates with good academic writing skills, technical competence in data analytics and a passion to work in healthcare.

The work will involve creating and working with databases and files of health care records with complex data structures, code ontologies and of variable data quality. You will write software code to extract, transform and load data in a range of statistical and machine learning software tools and be expected to understand and potentially improve on those tools. You will have good interpersonal skills to work as part of a team with medics, epidemiologists, statisticians and other data scientists and this may include fieldwork in hospitals and health care settings investigating real-life care pathways. A key role will be to provide technical support to other members of the team and assist in the preparation and publication of conference and journal papers.
