University of Queensland Press (UQP) is looking for an experienced and dynamic Marketing, Publicity and Sales Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to join the leadership team at one of Australia’s most respected publishing houses and work closely on a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books for adults, children and YA. You will be responsible for developing strategies to enhance awareness and recognition of the UQP brand both nationally and internationally. You will work across the organisation to develop and implement marketing and publicity campaigns that maximise the profile of all UQP authors and their books, maintaining internal and external communication with colleagues, authors and industry partners. You will be responsible for coordinating all sales and promotional collateral, advertising and UQP events. This position will be responsible for overseeing the marketing budget and building a small, dynamic Marketing, Publicity and Sales team, as well as contracting freelancers to deliver on publicity and sales outcomes.

The role

The role will be responsible for developing and maximising the visibility and profile of all UQP titles. Working closely with the publishers and CEO, you will strategically plan and manage all publicity and marketing campaigns for all UQP titles, as well as the overall UQP brand. You will manage and enhance relationships with bookshops, festivals, libraries, schools and other organisations to reach national and international audiences and maximise sales. Importantly, you will ensure that UQP authors are informed, valued and empowered in finding a broad readership for their work. You will help build and manage a small team (dependent on resources and needs) to deliver on all marketing, publicity and sales targets. As a member of the acquisitions team you will bring knowledge and experience to the acquisition of new titles and their potential for commercial, as well as cultural value.

The person

To be successful you will need to have demonstrated experience in marketing, publicity and/or sales. Forming part of the leadership team you will need to be a strategic thinker, dynamic and hard-working, flexible and creative in your approach. You will bring to the position a deep understanding and knowledge of national media and current trends in publicity and marketing, including digital and social media platforms.

You will need to have strong managerial experience to oversee a small team and/or freelancers and ensure all targets are met. You will be accountable and able to strategically track, review and report to the CEO on publicity and sales outcomes.

You will need advanced IT skills and experience in the  use of a wide range of computer applications (particularly Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Microsoft Word). You will ideally be familiar with programs such as Bookmaster and Biblio, Titlepage and Neilsen Bookscan. Importantly, you will need the ability to work independently and effectively as part of a small team, prioritising workload, multi-tasking and meeting deadlines.

We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, and significant experience in a publishing house, or related arts environment, or in book selling will be highly regarded. As well as a love of books and reading, you will have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with authors, media and stakeholders.
