The Chemistry Department of Wesleyan University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry, beginning July 1, 2018, in Chemical Biology with a research program at the interface of Chemistry and Neuroscience. The successful candidate will teach and conduct research in both the Chemistry Department and the Neuroscience and Behavior (NS&B) program. The Chemistry Department has an active PhD program and a strong undergraduate major program, and the NS&B Program is an interdisciplinary program bringing together faculty from the Chemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, and Psychology Departments. Candidates will be expected to have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related discipline and at least one year of postdoctoral experience by the time of appointment. The successful candidate will exhibit potential for excellence in teaching of both undergraduate and graduate level chemistry courses, including those cross-listed with the NS&B program. The ideal candidate will have significant graduate and postdoctoral research experience using chemical approaches to investigate and solve neuroscience challenges, interpreted broadly, and will be expected to establish an externally funded research program. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level. Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college that values both scholarship and teaching very highly, has a strong, diverse undergraduate student body, offering a generous sabbatical program and competitive salaries, start-up funds, and benefits.

Candidates must apply at http://careers.wesleyan.edu/postings/5909 by submitting a curriculum vitae, a description of research plans, a statement of teaching philosophy, and the email addresses of three referees who will be contacted for confidential letters of recommendation. As part of the teaching statement (or cover letter), we invite you to describe your cultural competencies and experiences engaging a diverse student body.  Review of applications will begin on September 18, 2017, and will continue until the position is filled.
