The Scientific Information Management group is seeking a highly motivated individual responsible for the execution of the information architecture strategy for the Merck Research Labs (MRL) division. This role will be responsible for integrating with key programs across the division to implement the information architecture strategy and processes in a consistent manor. In addition, this role will be responsible for providing thought leadership around the evolution of the information architecture processes.

The Scientific Information Architect's responsibilities may include but are not limited to;

- Oversee the analysis and design of the data stored by information systems, concentrating on entities, their attributes, and their inter-relationships

- Participate as a key member of strategic programs to embed strong information architecture across the division

- Develops and builds consensus for a strategic vision and roadmap for the organization to identify and prioritize information architecture projects and investments, consistent with the business strategies

- Lead cross functional governance meetings to ensure consistent execution of information architecture principles

- Refinement of the Information Architecture strategy inclusive of integrated business process, information flows, and system architecture in support of key business outcomes

- Oversight of an information architecture toolset used to manage information architecture assets including business process, information assets, and system architecture

- Facilitate appropriate training and communication sessions on information architecture

- Drive Information Architecture thought leadership across the MRL organization

- Integrate with other divisions to ensure MRL information architecture maps across research, manufacturing, and commercial

- Lead a matrixed team of direct and indirect resources driving information architecture across the organization

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelors or Master's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline

Required:

- Minimum of 10 years in Information Technology with a minimum 5 years of experience in Pharmaceutical or Biotech Industry

- Minimum of 2 years of experience leading information architecture / data engineering initiatives

- Strong understanding of information architecture principles

- Demonstrated system architecture experience

- Demonstrated experience with end to end business and system process design

- Strong Data modeling and information modeling skills

- Demonstrated experience leading programs in SDLC Waterfall and/or Agile (Scrum) project methodologies

- Strong analytical thinker and problem solving skills

- Strong written, listening, communication, and influencing skills

- Experience leading large, cross organizational IT programs
Preferred:

- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Drug Discovery, Clinical, Regulatory, and/or Safety processes

- Experience in database technologies, MDM technologies, Master Data Management(MDM), Business Intelligence, data warehousing, IT System integration and Enterprise Information Integration

- Experience in Architecture/Solution design, prototyping development and deployment

- Experience with various information management tools and technologies

- Familiarity with laws, rules and regulations applicable to Pharmaceutical industry

- Experience with solution architecture principles and practices

- Experience in program management
