Applications sought for a scientist/engineering position in Merck Research Lab’s (MRL) Biologics Pilot Plant (BPP). The candidate will perform various activities in support of equipment maintenance and engineering. The candidate will participate in a wide range of activities including, but not limited to: scheduling equipment calibrations, managing qualified equipment inventories, supporting equipment validation activities, reviewing and approving change management documentation, providing engineering guidance during troubleshooting events, ensuring GMP status of equipment and facilities, conducting equipment Lock Out / Tag Out, submitting equipment and facility work orders, conducting small capital projects, evaluating new technologies and equipment for potential use in the area, and supporting environmental and safety initiatives.

A good understanding of the regulatory guidelines governing GMP operations is important. Candidate is expected to work in a team atmosphere in close collaboration with plant personnel, facility engineering and maintenance, Quality, environmental, and safety groups. Some overtime (including weekends) will be required as well as carrying an on-call phone to support off-hour manufacturing.

Qualifications

Education:

- A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Biological Sciences with a minimum of three (3) years of industry experience, OR a Master's Sciences Degree in Engineering or Biological Sciences.

Required:

- Previous experience supporting equipment and/or facilities for manufacturing or laboratory areas.

Preferred:

- Ability to work independently and in a team environment

- Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills
