Assistant Professor (tenure-track)

The Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning (UEP) is seeking an assistant professor in Resilience, Infrastructure, and the Built Environment, to start July 1st, 2018.

The primary research and teaching interests of the successful candidate should be in one or more areas of resilience, infrastructure, and the built environment, such as urban eco-systems, the role of social and physical vulnerability in disaster recovery, infrastructure and transportation planning, urban design, and other related areas. The department is especially interested in candidates whose research connects across two or more of these areas. An important secondary qualification of the successful candidate will be strong competency in research methods, such as statistics, GIS, and data visualization techniques. The candidate will be expected to teach one required core course and two elective courses per year, for which they will develop basic and more advanced courses in physical planning and/or their primary area. In addition, they will serve as thesis advisor to M.A. level graduate students, and participate in departmental committees (e.g., assessment, curriculum, student affairs, etc.) and one university committee.

Qualifications. A Ph.D. in urban/regional planning or public policy is preferred, but doctoral degrees in related disciplines, such as economics, sociology, political science, geography, architecture, civil and environmental engineering, and environmental science will be considered. A strong record of scholarship, along with a robust research agenda, is required. Experience and excellence in college-level teaching are required. In addition, connections with professional public policy and planning practice would be highly valued.

Application instructions. All application materials must be submitted via Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/44426. Please submit a cover letter, CV, three-page Research Statement, one-page Teaching Statement, and three confidential letters of recommendation submitted directly by recommenders. Optional but not required: evidence of effective teaching, such as student evaluations, or letters of support (three maximum) from students or peers about the candidate’s teaching.

Questions about the position may be addressed to Department Administrator Maria Nicolau at maria.nicolau@tufts.edu.

Review of applications will start on October 1st, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.
