Job Details

The 3-year postdoc will develop behavioral-evolutionary models that combine bounded rationality, markets and social interactions (EVOCLIM). S/he will work in the ERC EVOCLIM project along with 2 additional seniors and 4 junior researchers, under the leadership of prof. Jeroen van den Bergh. The postdoc will study energy/carbon rebound from a behavioral angle. This will include developing an evolutionary model with multiple boundedly rational and interacting agents to study rebound. The research is motivated by the question: How does bounded rationality of individuals/households and firms contribute to rebound, and how does this affect the estimates of different types of rebound as well as the formulation of “rebound policy”? This involves examining the role of different types of bounded rationality, such as myopia, habits and imitation while connecting these to important rebound channels, such as the intensity effect, market effects and technological diffusion. The project integrates these elements into a behavioral-evolutionary model to address the core question systematically and completely, which is intended to provide improved insight into the relative performance of climate policy instruments on effectiveness, in terms of controlling carbon rebound. In addition, a questionnaire survey is performed to obtain empirical information about behavioral factors underlying rebound. The latter involves cooperation with another postdoc who has expertise in behavioral sciences and questionnaire surveys.
