This Senior Scientist ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion)

position will contribute to Merck's drug discovery and clinical development efforts in the Department of Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics and Drug Metabolism (PPDM) at MRL Rahway. The main goal of this group is to develop and support assays that will predict disposition of drug candidates and to develop strategies that provide insights into the potential for drug-drug interactions by being a substrate or inhibitor of drug metabolizing enzymes or transporters.

Successful candidates should have
a relevant experience in
drug metabolism and a passion for generating high quality drug metabolism in vitro data for use by
project teams across a range of therapeutic areas and must have independent
bench level in vitro skills as well as the capacity to provide input on complex
initiatives. They will
spend >50% of their time in the lab and must have demonstrated
leadership as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

Education:

- Bachelor’s degree with 7 years relevant experience
- Master’s degree with 4 years relevant experience, or a Ph.D. Appropriate subjects for highest degree include biology, biochemistry, chemistry, pharmacology or related field

Required:

- Desire to perform and interpret in vitro drug transporter studies in recombinant cell lines, vesicles and primary hepatocytes
- Working knowledge of drug transporter science
- Enthusiasm to learn more about drug discovery and development
- Track record of successful leadership
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred:

- Experience of working within a research-driven pharmaceutical company
- Experience with automation and/or developing technologies
