Job Details
The period between 17 and 25 years has been termed ‘emerging adulthood’ and is a distinct period of the life course when many key life events occur and the potential for behavioural and lifestyle change may be at its greatest. In this British Heart Foundation funded post, you will carry out statistical analysis of data from detailed cardiovascular and metabolic measurements on 25-year-old participants in the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC); a birth cohort that has been studied intensively since before birth. In addition to detailed cardiovascular and metabolic phenotyping, epigenetic and metabolomic data are available to provide novel information regarding exposures and potential mechanisms linking exposures and changes in lifestyle to normal and abnormal cardiovascular function.
You will work within the dynamic, multidisciplinary environment of the MRC IEU. You will collaborate with colleagues both from within the MRC IEU (e.g. Professors George Davey Smith and Debbie Lawlor) and other UK and international experts, including the project principal investigator Professor Alun Hughes (Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology and Pharmacology at UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science). Opportunities for continued training and career development are available, including the short courses run by the Population Health Sciences department and the University of Bristol staff development programme.
You will have expertise in medical statistics, epidemiology, or a related quantitative discipline (with strong statistical skills). Depending on the extent of previous experience, appointment will either be at grade I or grade J.
For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Dr Laura Howe – email laura.howe@bristol.ac.uk.
The post is available full time for two years. Interviews will be held Wednesday 1st November 2017.
The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
