Duties and responsibilities:

  • Present lectures, tutorials, small group discussions and dissection training in Human Anatomy for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

  • Facilitate small group discussions and practical / dissection sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

  • May be involved in curriculum development and module management in modules presented to undergraduate and post graduate students in health professions.

  • Be involved in the departmental research programme.

  • Active participation in research and postgraduate supervision.

    Inherent requirements:

     

    Lecturer:

    • PhD in any field related to Human Anatomy.

    • Experience as external examiner for postgraduate students.

    • Editorial board member of high-quality national scholarly journals.

    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership and academic scholarship in the specific scientific area of scholarship.

    • A NRF rating of C3 or equivalent status.

    • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated Master's degree students.

    • Proven experience in presenting oral / poster presentations at national and international conferences.

    • Serve as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels OR show evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.

     

    Professor:

  • PhD in any field related to Human Anatomy.

  • Experience as external examiner for Master’s and doctoral students.

  • Act as editorial board member of high-quality international / ISI / IBSS journals.

  • Proven international recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership and academic scholarship in the field of Human Anatomy (e.g. regularly serves as a reviewer for international / ISI / IBSS journals).

  • A NRF rating of C1 or C2 or equivalent status.

  • Demonstrated successful supervision of graduated Master's and preferably graduated doctoral students.

  • Proven experience in presenting oral / poster presentations at national and international conferences.

  • Serve as a member of an international scholarly society OR an international committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

  • Master’s degree in Human Anatomy.

  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.

  • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.

  • A good academic record.

  •  

    Senior Lecturer:

    • PhD in any field related to Human Anatomy.

    • At least five years’ experience of teaching Human Anatomy at undergraduate and postgraduate level, preferably with responsibility for curriculum development and assessment.

    • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s degree and PhD students.

    • Proven experience in delivering oral and/or poster presentations at national and international conferences.

    • Proven research record of relevant publications in the field of Human Anatomy in national and international accredited journals.

    • Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.

    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.

    • An NRF rating or demonstrable potential for obtaining an NRF rating.

    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.

    • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels

     

    Associate Professor:

    Required competencies:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University’s richly diverse working environment.

  • Ability to function independently, as well as in a team environment.

  • Ability to organise workload and to perform under pressure.

  •  

    Recommendations:

  • At least five (5) years’ experience of teaching in Human Anatomy at undergraduate and postgraduate level, preferably with responsibility of curriculum development and assessment.

  • Proven academic work experience in the higher education sector.

  • Experience in research and obtaining research funds.

  • Appropriate registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

  • Knowledge of an additional South African language.

  • Valid driver's license.

  •  

    Assumption of duties:
    01 January 2018.
