Director: Centre for Human Rights (contract appointment: 5 years)

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership in positioning the Centre as an important academic human rights institution regionally, nationally and internationally.

  • Develop human rights programmes and projects in close cooperation with programme and project coordinators.

  • Responsible for the operational management of the Centre, including personnel performance systems, and financial management and accountability.

  • Develop and support research activities resulting in high quality research outputs.

  • Represent the Centre institutionally and develop cooperative national and international networks and strategic partnerships with human rights organisations and institutions.

  • Cooperate with programme coordinators on fundraising, donor reporting and identifying new donors in order to achieve the Centre’s objectives.

  • Maintain a close and productive relationship with the Advisory Board of the Centre.

  • Co-responsible for meetings with and reporting to external project stakeholders.

  • Responsible for overseeing all key communication with both internal and external project stakeholders.

  • Responsible for the final approval of all media (Digital content including branding, graphic, video, multimedia and communication) directly related to work done for and by the Centre.

  •  

    Requirements:

    The ideal candidate will be someone who fulfils most of the following criteria:

  • A PhD in law or the humanities.

  • A solid theoretical appreciation of contemporary human rights issues and developments, as well as an understanding of the socio-political and human rights environment nationally and regionally.

  • Appropriate experience in a managerial position at an academic institution.

  • Proven research experience in the field of human rights.

  • A record of human rights advocacy and awareness raising.

  • Experience in the development of collaborative networks and strategic partnerships and developing and maintaining productive relations with internal and external role players and strategic partners.

  • Experience in successful fundraising.

  • Strong organisational and project management skills.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  •  

    Term of office:

    Five (5) years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further term.

     

    Assumption of duties:

    As soon as possible.

    Salary:

    The salary scale is available on request.

     

    Fringe benefits:
