The University of Adelaide is one of Australia's leading Group of Eight, research-intensive universities and is consistently ranked among the top 1% of universities in the world. Established in 1874, it is Australia's third oldest university with a strong reputation for preparing educated leaders and delivering research outcomes that contribute to local, national and global wellbeing.

The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. As the first university in Australia to grant degrees in science (1882), science has long been at the cornerstone of the institution and this continues today.  As a research and education leader in fields such as biomedical sciences, agricultural, environmental and earth sciences, and photonics, the Faculty offers an exciting and innovative work environment.

The School of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Sciences brings together the internationally acclaimed and contemporary disciplines of cellular and molecular biology, ecology and environmental sciences, and genetics, genomics & evolutionary biology delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research with both national relevance and global outreach and networks in the public and private sectors.  It is also host to a node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage (CABAH), with researchers from the Australian Centre for Ancient DNA (ACAD) actively involved in the Centre’s activities.

More broadly, CABAH, headquartered at the University of Wollongong, brings together eight Australian universities (UOW, James Cook University, the University of New South Wales, the Australian National University, the University of Adelaide, Flinders University, Monash University and the University of Tasmania), with a range of partner organisations, including major public education and engagement institutions in Australia (Australian Museum, Queensland Museum, South Australian Museum and State Library of New South Wales) and overseas (Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, France, Germany, Denmark, the UK and the USA). The CABAH team consists of 27 researchers based in Australian and international universities and research institutions, as well as a range of other Australian and international leaders in research, science communication, and education and engagement.

We invite highly motivated researchers to apply for a 12 month post-doctoral position (renewable pending funding) at the Australian Centre for Ancient DNA (ACAD) to work on collaborative projects with CABAH. Researchers with a strong background in ecological or evolutionary modelling, and additional experience in genomic research (i.e. phylogenetics, population genetics, statistical genetics or bioinformatics), are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join the world-renowned ACAD team (ACAD’s publications; adelaide.edu.au/acad/publications/), where they will lead a program developing new models for synthesizing ecological and evolutionary data (including genetic information from ancient DNA), and co-supervise a group of postgraduate students in collaboration with local and overseas colleagues, and the University’s School of Mathematical Sciences.
