NIHR CLAHRC Wessex Research Fellow ERE 4 (Self-Management of care and loneliness)

Contract available until Dec 2018 (with the possibility of extension to 2019, a contract for extended funding is currently under negotiation)

You will join a multi-disciplinary team with strengths in applied social science looking at how we can make a difference through researching, implementing and evaluating interventions focussed on people’s social identity and the resources they have around them for emotional and psychological support. This fits within a set of broader academic interests where we consider social and health inequalities, environments, technologies, social influences and systems involved in making sense of health risks and conditions.  Southampton is one of the best places in the UK for applied health services research and education.

Our exciting programme of work for the CLAHRC* explores Self-directed support for managing health through people's social networks and engagement with on/offline community resources. We have developed and implemented a social network tool (GENIE) which is being used in a variety of health, social and community settings. Our research explores the properties and contexts of social networks to find out what type of support works for each individual. We are in an exciting phase where we will be exploring if and how a social network intervention can impact on loneliness and social isolation.  (*Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care)

It is essential you have a PhD in applied social science e.g. health psychology, sociology or PhD and experience of working in social, community public health contexts.  Experience of empirical work and collecting and analysing trial data quantitative and qualitative are also a pre-requisite. Ideally you will experience of working on GENIE with a focus on the social isolation and loneliness work in particular.

For additional information and informal enquiries before submitting your application, contact Prof Anne Rogers (A.E.Rogers@soton.ac.uk) or Dr Rebecca Band (R.J.Band@soton.ac.uk).

The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date stated above. If you need any assistance, please call Sam Stubbs (Recruitment Team) on +44 (0)23 8059 4046. Please quote reference 922217BN on all correspondence.
